Mortal Coil is built on this belief that the objects we use, wear, and care for provide us with satisfaction, while becoming lasting artifacts of who we are. These pieces are designed to endure, to be touched often, to live with us, and eventually, to outlive us.

Each piece is a meditation on meaning, crafted to honor both the fleeting and the eternal.

The name comes from Hamlet, who imagined the moment "we have shuffled off this mortal coil": the tangle of breath, body and feeling we hold for only a while. To name a house after it is to keep a memento mori close at hand. Life is fleeting, and each day is a gift. Most of it is spent in small rituals: the first light of morning, a pause between conversations, the objects reached for without thinking. These are the moments worth noticing, and these are the pieces designed to live in them.

The Founder

Jacquelyn Trezzo is a photographer, director and designer based in Los Angeles. Fashion, interiors and architecture shape the way she sees the world, and she is endlessly drawn to the place where beauty meets function. Her muses are the clown in all its old disguises: Pierrot, the jester, the joker, painted faces that smile through sorrow. Their melancholy runs quietly beneath Mortal Coil, a reminder that we are all connected in our desire to feel happiness and experience life's pleasures, however fleeting.

For years she has collected sterling silver accessories and objects from the 19th and 20th centuries, pieces that carried their owners' rituals long after those owners were gone. Mortal Coil grew from that collection. Each piece is inspired by the past and designed for the present, made by hand in Los Angeles, one at a time, to order, to become the heirloom of tomorrow.
